Event Information

The Walking Classic consists of two distances: a 10k (6.2 miles) and a half marathon (13.1 miles). Due to the length of time we can keep the course open, all participants in the half marathon will be required to maintain a pace no slower than 18 minutes per mile. At the 6-mile split for the 10k and half marathon, walkers who are slower than the 18 minute per mile pace will be guided to finish with the 10k walkers and not be permitted to continue the half marathon distance. An 18 minute per mile pacer will be walking along the course carrying signage so that walkers will know they cannot fall behind. After the 6-mile point, a sag bus will be following the 18-minute per mile pacer and slower walkers will be asked to board the bus and taken be taken back to the start/finish.

New for 2015 – Competitor Divisions

A Competitor’s Division will be implemented this year for both the 10k and half marathon distances. Walkers who choose to sign up as a competitor will receive special bib numbers and be granted access toward the front of the starting line. To be considered a competitor, you are seeking to vie for an age-group or overall award and/or you will average under 13:30 per mile whether for the half marathon or 10k distance. Those who intend to walk a sub 13:30 average pace per mile are not required to sign up as a competitor.

To make packet pick up more convenient, we have changed our pick up site to Second Sole in Gahanna so that we can offer extended days and hours.

Packet Pickup Information

THERE IS NO PACKET PICKUP ON RACE DAY. ALL RACE PACKETS MUST BE PICKED UP DURING THE DESIGNATED TIMES AS INDICATED. PERSONS WHO FAIL TO PICK UP THEIR PACKETS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WALK AND WILL NOT RECEIVE THEIR RACE JACKET AND OTHER PERKS. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL THERE BE ANY EXCEPTIONS TO THE AFOREMENTIONED.

Packet pickup will take place at Second Sole in Gahanna Ohio, 1245 North Hamilton Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. Packet pickup hours are Monday through Friday, September 7-11, 2015 between 10:00 am until 8:00 pm and Saturday, September 12, 2015 between 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Awards & Age Groups

Overall awards will be given to the top 3 women and men finishers in each distance. To be eligible for a top three award, judged racewalking rules will be applied. The two rules used in a judged racewalk are The Straight Knee Rule (the advancing leg must be straightened from the moment of first contact with the ground until in the vertical position) and The Contact Rule (the walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible loss of contact occurs).

The top three women and men in each of the following age groups will receive awards after the results are validated. This can take up to one month. The age groups are: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 and above. Judged racewalking rules will not be followed for age group awards. However, as a walking only event, anyone who runs, whether for a few steps or one minute will be disqualified.

ONLY THOSE WHO SIGN UP AS A COMPETITOR WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR AN AGE GROUP OR OVERALL AWARD.

Participant Perks

All participants will receive a special race jacket. All sizing will be gender specific. While every size request should hopefully be fulfilled, the possibility remains that certain sizes may not be in stock.
